Azumanga Daioh is the definition of hit and miss, you either like this series for what it’s worth or you don’t. You could like it a bit, but that’s your choice.
Anime such as Azumanga Daioh and Danshi Koukousei No Nichijou will no longer be receiving reviews because there is simply not enough value is reviewing each episode. These types of comedy are very disconnected, and each episode consists of its own plot much like the Simpson’s would, and that doesn’t really contribute to any overall progression. If it does the link is very, very weak.
Shows which are like this will receive a review based on impressions at the start of the series and at the end, rather than an episode by episode summary. After all, who wants to read me explaining why something is funny each episode? Let’s face it, that’s the purpose of these anime is to be funny, not to necessarily tell a gripping story like Nisemonogatari, Toradora!, K-ON! etc….
Hopefully this works out for the better.
Azumanga Daioh – 05 Review
Awesome-sauce! It turns out I was right, or at least for now, about Kimura being the last introduced character. This episode was totally funny in both the style and events that occurred. Very promising and utterly, utterly stupid (in a good way, Ayumu).
Azumanga Daioh – 04 Review
This episode was a right laugh a half. Kimura, the zombie-pervert teacher who looks munted and walks around with his jaw open 24/7 is extremely funny, not to mention there are more of Yukari and Minamo’s antics amongst the regular energetic Tomo and infinitesimally slow Ayumu. This gives the rest of the series hope, as it has been rather hilly up to this point.
Azumanga Daioh – 03 Review
This episode did prove to be better than the last and maybe give some hope for the rest of the series, as hard as it is to review already as each episode is so independent. However, we do learn more about Yukari – most notably that she is a raging alcoholic given the chance!
Azumanga Daioh – 02 Review
It turns out this anime really is about nothing, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t enjoyable. It’s like the Simpsons or Futurama, you either love it or hate it. Unless you’re one of those people who can do half-half. Pssh.
Azumanga Daioh – 01 Review
BakaBT lists this anime’s categories as: comedy, school life, daily life, slice of life and a few others. I like these kinds of anime, however, I had no idea what the hell was going on in this episode. It wasn’t bad, it was funny, but I just don’t know what was going on… well, I did a little.
